“I want everyone who is buying the Selamta bags to know that how much joy and happiness they brought to my family. And I want them to continue supporting us and Selamta for the future too.” – Zenebech, Selamta Mother
Selamta is an Ethiopian word that means “Be at peace.” More than four million children in Ethiopia have been orphaned by AIDS in a country with no societal safety net. The overwhelming majority are separated from their sibling and abandoned to the streets. These children are joined in poverty by millions of displaced women who have lost their adult children and husbands to AIDS.
According to Unicef and other leading organizations for children, stable families are the most successful model for social change and renewal. The Selamta Family Project creates new, stable and life-long families in AIDS-ravaged communities to repair the social fabric of their society.
King’s Row Coffee has teamed up with Selamta Family Project to bring you The Selamta Blend. $5.00 of every bag sold goes to the Selamta Family Project and to the Selamta community members who are hand-stitching each bag, as a source of income. Coffee is a cultural experience in Ethiopia. It’s a precious time when friends and family come together during the day to slow down, appreciate the process and share life. We hope to make bring the same experience to you, while raising money for this great cause.
